The New York City chapter of the Institute for International Film Financing (IIFF) continues its popular monthly gatherings at the junction of film & finance with a special Film Financing Townhall at the renowned School of Visual Arts (SVA). Their facilities are conveniently located near the corner of 23rd Street & 3rd Avenue.

This grassroots community get-together is designed to foster & inform productive relationships between attendees. It provides unbiased insight & education about the business of film and film financing in particular. The event features a powerful roster of highly topical speakers from the filmmaking and financial industries. We are delighted to welcome real-world financiers among our guests!

The evening's five presentations plus panel discussion address key issues relevant to filmmakers, financiers and anyone interested in the economics, business mechanics, and financial dynamics of motion pictures. They are followed by Q&A time. Attendees also have ample opportunity to interact & network with our featured experts and amongst themselves.

An informal après-meeting celebration will take place at a nearby restaurant.

Host logoThis month's Film Financing Townhall in New York is hosted by the esteemed School of Visual Arts (SVA), one of the nation's largest independent, regionally accredited art and film schools. Located in the heart of New York City, SVA is an established leader and innovator in the education of artists, offering graduate, undergraduate and continuing-education classes.

From its inception in 1947 as a trade school with three instructors and 35 students, SVA has grown into a dynamic, multidisciplinary institution with a faculty of more than 800 and a student body of almost 3,500. The School distinguishes itself by its extensive facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, unique program philosophies, and the size, breadth and professional standing of its faculty.

Speaker Bios

Ethan Bordman, Esq.

Speaker headshot 1Ethan Bordman is an entertainment attorney and the founder of law firm Ethan Y. Bordman, PLLC. He represents authors, screenwriters, producers, directors and actors, guiding them through the legal and business matters they face in bringing their dreams to the screen. He has also assisted investors and filmmakers in financing motion pictures. Mr. Bordman earned a law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law, a master's degree in Entertainment Law from the University of Westminster in London (UK) and a master's degree in International Sports Law from Anglia University in Cambridge (UK). Moreover, he holds an MBA from the Prentis School of Business at Wayne State University. Before starting his law practice, Mr. Bordman worked with the American Federation of TV and Radio Artists (AFTRA), a national performers' union. While at AFTRA, he coordinated TV and radio projects for networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, CTV (Canadian TV), TNT and Lifetime Networks. Mr. Bordman is the former Chair of the Arts, Entertainment and Sports Law section of the Michigan State Bar and is currently a member of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law committee of the New York State Bar. Vince Gonzalez

Speaker headshot 2Vince Gonzalez has worked on independent films and TV shows for over 10 years. As a Production Accountant and Line Producer, he chased film incentives throughout the East Coast and the South, for everthing from ultra-low budget indies to multi-million dollar union features. His credits include the Slamdance films "Mississippi Damned" (2009) and "Pariah" (2011). Mr. Gonzalez is currently Controller at Greencard Pictures in New York City, where they recently completed episodes for the second season of IFC's "Food Party" in addition to producing the 2011 Sundance film "The Woods." He has worked with such talents as Academy Award winning director Arthur Hiller, musicians Beyonce and J Lo, and cultural institutions including PBS's Independent Lens and the NYC Ballet. (more) »

Stuart Ginsberg

Speaker headshot 3A marketing and communications consultant for over 20 years, Stuart Ginsberg's extensive experience includes film festival strategies, branding, unit publicity and grassroots marketing. He helps movies gain exposure and distribution deals through the development of innovative and creative campaigns. Mr. Ginsberg has developed low-budget "breakthrough" marketing strategies for feature film projects, TV pilots, games, comic books and short films, including projects that have appeared at the IFP, Comic-Con, Tribeca Film Festival, NY Television Festival and Fort Lauderdale Film Festival. Through his work, he has helped producers and directors achieve press coverage, raise money, achieve distribution and obtain representation for their projects. Mr. Ginsberg is also an active producer of independent films, currently working as a writer, director and producer on his independent documentary "Wednesdays at A's" about Lower East Side underground artist Arleen Schloss. His last producing project "Followers" garnered numerous film festival awards and received national distribution by Julian Schlossberg's Castle Hill Productions. For the film, he raised finishing funds and oversaw marketing and branding. Mr. Ginsberg was a founding member of the Back East Picture Show, a film festival in Hoboken, NJ, aimed at helping the independent filmmaker. He earned his BA from American University in Washington, DC and his MA from the New School University. (more) »

Kaiser Wahab, Esq.

Speaker headshot 4Kaiser Wahab is a seasoned business, intellectual property, technology and entertainment attorney with the law firm of Wahab & Medenica LLC in New York City. A graduate of Cornell University and Columbia Law School, he routinely assists producers and entrepreneurs in crafting film investment structures. His client list has included Das Films, Yash Raj, Anywhere Road (as the Executive Vice President), Andrew Paquin and his movie featuring Oscar winner Anna Paquin, Faulkner Award-winning author Phillip Jennings, and others. Mr. Wahab has broad experience, having worked on films that run the gamut from Bollywood movies, such as "Tara Rum Pum," to indie comedies, such as "The Oh in Ohio," starring Paul Rudd. With Anywhere Road he was intimately involved in the clearance, financing and distribution of all the company's films, including the documentary "A Very British Gangster" and "Black Irish" by Brad Gann, writer of "Invincible." He also developed the financing and business model for Imagine Fashion's video collective, which features top fashion photography and modeling names. Beginning his career with Pryor Cashman Sherman & Flynn LLP, Mr. Wahab later joined Day Pitney LLP, where he handled licensing, trademark/copyright and contractual issues for companies like Microsoft and UTC. In addition to that, he clerked at the U.S. Court of International Trade. Mr. Wahab is published in the Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Journal, and he has lectured and presented at Harvard Law School, Columbia University and the School of Visual Arts on film financing, copyright and digital media. Mr. Wahab has also served as Chair of the Corporations Committee at the New York County Lawyers Association. Most recently, Mr. Coppola was the Media and Entertainment Leader and Strategist for management consulting firm Luminant Worldwide, where he worked on Atkins, M&M's and A&E, and a Partner at integrated marketing company The Veritas Group. Before that, he helped spearhead the New York office for consulting firm Groundswell and worked as Director of Sales at ARC Studios. Throughout his career, Mr. Coppola has been actively engaged as an entrepreneur, business strategist, management consultant, visioneer, new business developer, relationship manager, musician, recording artist, author, TV commercial producer, motivational speaker and practicing clinical psychotherapist. A former Certified Teacher with the New York City Board of Education for 8 years, he taught students to explore their creativity, imagination, processing and essential learning skills through film, music, math and reading. Mr. Coppola graduated from St. John's University and holds an MA in Education from New York University (NYU).
